ARGONITE is an inert gas blend of argon and nitrogen, which occur naturally in the environment. With zero ODP, zero GWP and zero atmospheric lifetime, it has excellent environmental properties. A typical design concentration of 40% will reduce the oxygen level to 12.5% within 60 seconds. The space requirement for inert gas storage cylinders is greater than that needed for chemical agents, although the latest systems with cylinder storage pressures of 300 bar offer significant space savings over equivalent 200 bar systems. The cylinders are mounted in rows and may be stored in any suitable location, even over 100 meters away from the protected areas.
ARGONITE® C60 is the advanced new combination of the ARGONITE® inert gas fi re suppression system with innovative patented C60 Controlled Flow Technology. It offers a sound investment to safeguard your company’s assets, both today and well into the future.
Argonite is a mixture of 50% pure Nitrogen and 50% pure Argon. Argonite contains only naturally occurring substances, and as such, has no ozone depletion potential and no direct global warming potential. Argonite extinguishes by means of reducing the oxygen content within a room to the point at which fire can no longer burn, but without compromising the safety of individuals present. There are no toxicological factors associated with the use of Argonite. Argonite will not decompose or produce any by-products when exposed to a flame from a fire condition. Most Argonite systems are designed to extinguish fires with a minimum agent concentration of 37.9% achieved within one minute. This results in extinguishment of the fire and an oxygen concentration of 13%. Argonite is stored as a gas within the cylinder assembly. It is available at a storage pressure of 2900 PSI (200 bar).
Kidde has developed the 300 bar Argonite system as an alternative to the well-known 200 bar inert gas system. It offers a 30% reduction in the number of extinguishing agent cylinders. Tested and approved by regulatory bodies throughout the world, Argonite is effective against fires in almost all combustible materials and flammable liquids. Argonite is especially suitable for use in areas where the use of water, foam or powder would be unacceptable.
